PASTOR CONNECTS GOLF TO THE CHRISTIAN WALK IN NEW BOOK
Award-winning writer produces humorous and thought-provoking book on God and Golf
FORT WASHINGTON, MD – Author Marvin R. Wamble connects the challenges on the golf course and the trials and tribulations of the Christian walk in his new book, “From Tee to Green: Seeing God … In the Middle of the Fairway.”
The book is a series of short stories that cover almost every aspect of the demanding game of golf and makes direct correlations to the hurdles of Christian living. It is a humorous, thought-provoking and inspirational book, designed to open the eyes of any Christian, would-be Christian or anyone who loves the game of golf.
“This is not a golf instruction manual, but everyone who reads it will certainly approach the game of golf differently,” says Wamble, pastor of Shiloh Community United Methodist Church in Newburg, MD. “It really amazed me when God opened my eyes and showed me how my grip, my stance, my swing, my preparation and even the balls I play with can be linked to how Christians live their lives.”
From Tee to Green, a devotional written for golfers searching for a way to improve their lives and their game, shares Wamble’s witty and insightful reflections on life and golf. With personal anecdotes, spiritual lessons, and prayers, he dares to ask tough questions designed to spur readers to the next level of their game – whether it’s in the middle of a golf course or at one of life’s emotional and spiritual crossroads.
Wamble, a playwright and award-winning journalist, shows us how to make God a part of our daily lives so that we may walk with spiritual confidence and courage. He says, “Not wanting us to settle for par or bogey, the Lord lovingly infuses us with the power and authority to allow a more abundant existence, allowing us to not only fly like eagles, but to capture a few on the links as well.”
Wamble admits that he is not a great golfer, but like most he strives to improve his game every time he goes to the course. He also knows that most are not great Christians, but it is in our daily walk that we strive to get closer to God. He has played golf courses all around the country and around the world and talks about those experiences in ways that will surely put a smile on your face.
In addition to writing, Wamble is a dynamic motivational speaker who has developed the “God Golf” seminars to help churches start and maintain an effective golf ministry. These workshops lay the foundation for a tool to reach golfers and those interested golf while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A native of Berkeley, CA, Wamble was a collegiate All American in track and field. He has been writing professionally for more than 25 years, including stints as a sports writer and columnist for several of the top newspapers in the country including the San Jose Mercury News and the Dallas Times Herald. He has been playing golf for more than15 years.
Wamble gave his life to Christ more than 30 years ago, but spent decades running from his calling. After spending five years under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Tony Evans in Dallas and 12 years under Pastor Conrad D. Parker and Rev. Dr. Diana L. Parker at Grace United Methodist Church in Fort Washington, MD, Wamble answered his call to ministry. He became the pastor of Shiloh Community UMC in 2007.
He has been married to the former Anita Patterson for more than 20 years. They reside in Fort Washington, MD with their two children, Julian 18, Jenise 14 while God-daughter Alicia Williams and her son a, Jayvious Williams, 9 reside in Oxon Hill, MD.
